Super Vacation! Part 1 Newport

Kyle and I planned this vacation in the spring, and it finally became reality this last week. We hit 3 destinations in 1 week. First stop was Newport, OR.
annoyed I'm taking pictures of him

Yay! On the road!

uh oh, getting car sick.

mmmm Frosty's. Usually Frosty's make my upset stomach better, not this time.

kiddos, complaining that we're not at the beach yet.

This was the view from our, Ocean View Room

That night was we rolled into town we realized that we were severely under dressed and hadn't brought proper clothing, it was too late to really go anywhere to get anything. The next morning Kyle woke up at the ass crack of dawn, drove out to Depoe Bay and went on a fishing charter. They were fishing for salmon. Kyle caught 2 natives and had to throw them back. I was really sad that we didn't get to bring any fish home with us, then when I found out he didn't take pictures, I was devastated! Oh well. That very same morning kids and I had breakfast. I decided that 55 degrees wasn't too cold to brave a walk to the thrift store to find some sweatshirts. The problem was, we got there too early. So the kiddos and I kept walking, expecting some other store to be open and sell sweatshirts. Four miles later I was back at the same thrift store and bought a wicked cool "school is cool" sweatshirt and the kids each already had one. From there we walked down to Nye Beach.

The masks are from the thrift store. They absolutely had to have those masks. They could not imagine the rest of their lives without those masks. Then they forgot to pack them when we left Newport.

The beautiful, long path down to Nye Beach. They were so excited I had to bribe them (saltwater taffy) to stop running and let me take a picture.

CJ and Brian were trying to dig a tunnel under this log.

They spent hours digging in the sand.

More Nye Beach pictures:

After our morning at the beach we walked back to the hotel, we met Kyle in the room for lunch and then had a nice long family nap. No picture of that, I was busy sleeping.

When we woke up the kids (ok, mostly me) were ready to go to another beach just outside of Depoe Bay. It's by Fogerty Creek. The sand isn't as fine as the sand on Nye Beach or Beverly Beach. I love the cliffs, rocks, view, and sounds of this beach better than any other OR beach we've been to. It's so much quieter. Not to mention that there are a ton of shells for the kiddos to discover.

Seriously, look how awe inspiring the scene behind CJ and Brian is. Too beautiful. I love it.

While the weather may have been too cold to play in the water, the sand was nice and warm on my toes.

Girls just wanna have fun

My boys

Happy as can be

I thought Brian looked so super cute with his pants rolled up.

CJ was always digging, I'm not sure what she was digging for.

Brian and I were running from the very cold water!

Kyle and Brian, rock climbing

Brian, flexing his rock climbing arms!

CJ and Daddy, just chillin'

Ok, I know this is kidda gross, but Brian had sand stuck to the snot on his face and refused to let me wipe it away!

We played "Where's my toes?" "What's that wiggling in the sand?" and "Bury Me!" For about an hour!

That's one happy family!

But wait! Our day still is not over! From Foggerty Creek went headed up to Lincoln City for some Outlet Mall Shopping!!! I love shopping in OR, it's like a coupon in every store when I don't have to pay sales tax! It is a pretty good outlet mall. I really like it. We shopped till we dropped, we just so happened to drop right inside an ice cream parlor filled with Tillamook ice cream! How super lucky are we?
CJ really did like it, I just took a terrible picture. She had chocolate that had a peanut butter swirl.

Brian had orange sherbet

Just kickin' it.

I made sure to poison taste test everybody's ice cream. It was all super delicious. Kyle had Rainer Cherry and Mountain Huckleberry, and I had the Huckleberry. You already know what the kiddos had. I highly recommend Tillamook for your next ice cream outing. Who needs Cold Stone?

We finally went back to the hotel, had dinner. After dinner the pull was just too great. We ended up going back to Nye Beach to watch the sunset. Before we left, there was not a cloud in sight, when we got to the beach, clouds were rolling in. The sunset wasn't postcard worthy, but still fantastic. It was a totally awesome end to a super day. Sorry no pics, left phone and cameras in the room.

Day two we went to the aquarium. I made two mistakes before we went. Mistake one, I took the kids to the beach. Mistake two, I told them about the touching pools and the under water tunnels. When we got to the aquarium the only things they were interested in were the touching pools and the tunnels. Everything else just got in the way and was a waste of time. And they had different opinions about where we should spend all our time. Brian wanted to stay at the touching pool all day and was angry when we made him leave. CJ just wanted to stay in the tunnels.

Bathing birds, I felt a little like a peeping tom, watching the birds take a bath

CJ found a good window to watch the Sea Lion and the Otter sun bathe

Brian didn't want to miss out.

The touching pools were super cool. Brian would have just jumped right in the pools if we let him, but CJ was much more cautious when it came to what she would touch.

Nemo and Dori

CJ and her map.

Brian and I are trying to come to an agreement about how he should behave in the tunnel. Notice that instead of provocking Brian, CJ is only intrested in the fish.

Brian and I still struggling to find out who is in control of the situation.

CJ really did enjoy the tunnel. She was sad when we had to leave.

CJ is looking through floor to see more fish, and of course she has her trusty map right next to her! She would not let that map go until we left the aquarium. She always wanted to know exactly how far the tunnels were.

Brian, finally noticed how cool the tunnels were.

We all could agree, the play area was fun!

Next stop, Seattle!
