Last night I started watching season 1 of Mad Men, (I know, what took me so long right?) and in one of the first two episodes it shows Don's wife was driving the kids home from a play date. The kids are a little older than CJ and Brian, but just as crazy active as my kiddos. The big difference was the total lack of car seats (the year is 1960). They are climbing back and forth from back seat to front, jumping around the back, and so on. As I watched this scene all I said to myself was, no wonder mothers drank as much as they did! I think I might be an alcoholic if it weren't for things like car seats, playlands, and many more modern mommy helpers. So thank you Tennessee. Tennessee was the first state to pass laws requiring the use of safety seats for young children. Between 1978 and 1985 every single state was to follow suit. There has been little backlash toward these laws, as the general populace sees safety seats as a necessary precaution.
My car seat facts are from and article on www.pregnancy-place.com written by Bill Schnarr. So if you find these fact incorrect, talk to Bill. :)
