Nodules

What are Vocal Cord Nodules?
Vocal cord nodules are callous-like bumps on the vocal cords. They can form on one or both of the cords. They usually are located on the front 1/3 of the vocal cord, and range in size from a pinhead to a split pea. During normal speech, the vocal cords should press firmly together. However, if nodules are present the cords cannot close completely. Therefore, extra air escapes and the voice sounds hoarse and breathy as a result. CJ has a matching set. This morning was CJ's much anticipated ENT appointment. They numbed her nose with drops (no needle!!), then scoped down to her vocal cords. The Dr. believes that her nodules were created by untreated allergies. She ordered an allergy test. We couldn't do the test today because she's had antihistamine in the last 2 weeks. Her allergy test is scheduled for March 23. After the allergy test the Dr will then make a decision about treatment for the nodules.

First Thursday!
It's the first Thursday of the month, you know what that means! After dinner (cheese triangles) with Suzi and Kevin we went to the art museum. They have an Ansel Adams exhibit. It was pretty cool. I'm getting the kids to do more besides run strait to the Experience Art Exhibit. The activity this month was watercolors. We were supposed to be inspired by Ansel Adams.

Brian painted worms. It's been raining here a lot. We've been picking up a lot of worms and throwing them into the garden beds.

Finger Paints!
I thought our table that seats six looked a little odd with only 4 place mats. I thought how fun would it be to let the kiddos finger paint two more. I hyped it up all morning, I had the two most well behaved children all morning. After nap time I pulled out the paper, aprons, paints. Uh Oh, the paints were all dried up except yellow. So they had very sunshiny paintings. However, thanks to my dear 'ol sweet Mom, I have this cookbook from when I was a little kiddo. It has all sorts of kid friendly to make and eat recipes. In the back are recipes for fun, not food. I found the finger paint recipe and we had everything on hand to make it!! It was awesome making paint with the kids. I defiantly recommend aprons for all. Kids and food coloring is a dangerous combination for your kitchen and clothes.
So here's the recipe, I halved it, it yields about 2 cups, that seemed like a lot for my 2 kiddos.
Finger Paints:
3 T. Sugar
1/2 C. Cornstarch
2 C. Water
Food Coloring
Dish Detergent
Mix sugar and cornstarch in a medium sauce pan. Add the water and mix a little more.
Cook over a low heat, stirring constantly until well blended; about 5 minutes.
Remove from the stove, cool, and pour into plastic or paper cups. I used the smallest of those Ziploc containers that has the snap on lids.
Add food coloring until it is the desired color, and then add a drop of detergent.

The kids got a new shower head in their bathroom, it's lower and doesn't spray the water too hard!

Slip Up
I was putting away a box of cookies when I was trying to figure out what we were having for dinner tonight. I gave these choices to my children, "Would you like soup or cookies?" My brain was thinking cookies, I meant to ask soup or sandwiches. Of course before I could correct myself they jumped at the opportunity presented and said "COOKIES!" We ended up having soup with *1* cookie. Wow, I'm really losing it now.
Crafty Kids
Today after lunch we made personalized place mats! I made one for me and Kyle too! The table looks much more festive with our fancy-shamcy new place mats! I just pulled out some construction paper, stickers, glue, crayons, and scissors and told the kids to do whatever they wanted. After we were done decorating we had a field trip to Kinkos to get them laminated. I bet you can match each place mat to each person in our family!
What A Beautiful Day!
Monday afternoon was so beautiful. The kids and I were inspired to go to the park for a picnic lunch. We weren't the only ones! A work crew from park and rec was there, people from nearby offices, and several other children and moms.
